We really enjoy engaging with our rate payers. Please check in from time to time to see what is happening around the District.
This year, our Annual General Meeting falls on March 6, 2018 in the Azalea Room at Garden Park Tower, 2825 Clearbrook Road.
The AGM is an opportunity to learn more about CWD operations. During the meeting, you will hear about capital planning and be able to view the associated budgets, hear operational reports, elect (when applicable) new Trustees, set remuneration, and ratify the annual auditor selection.
This year, we will provide updates regarding major capital projects.
CLEARBROOK WATERWORKS DISTRICT HAS PROPOSED THREE ‘GENERATIONAL’ CAPITAL PROJECTS IN THE NEW FIVE YEAR PLAN. THESE PROPOSED PROJECTS ARE UP FOR DISCUSSION AND INPUT.
THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1) PROPOSED OPERATIONS FACILITY TO BE CONSTRUCTED AT THE RESERVOIR SITE IN 2018:
The facility will be large enough to house all of CWD’s equipment in one place while providing space for emergency response stock, a water quality testing lab, office space, training room and staff area. The new facility will allow for consolidation of all of the equipment and supplies necessary for efficient field operations to be stored at one site.
2) PROPOSED ADMINISTRATION OFFICE TO BE CONSTRUCTED AT THE JANZEN STREET PROPERTY (CURRENT WORKS YARD) IN 2019:
A new office is proposed for the Janzen Street location and the Clearbrook Road office space will be vacated. The Janzen Street property houses CWD’s original well, which is still valuable as an emergency source. When considering consolidation and building renewal, the Janzen Yard was identified as integral because of the well. The property may not be large enough to house the new operations facility but is a perfect location for the proposed office.
3) RESERVOIR REPLACEMENT PROPOSED FOR 2021:
Reservoir B will be nearly 50 years old this year and is nearing the end of its useful life. With the District earmarked as a high density corridor in the new Official Community Plan, it is proposed that reservoir B will be demolished and replaced with a larger reservoir.
All three of these planned projects are envisioned as “generational” and could be constructed to support operations for the next 50-60 years.
Each summer, we host an open house at one of our sites. These events are open to the public and they present an opportunity to learn about the system. This summer, we'll have suppliers and partners of CWD set up a mini trade show to display various aspects of the waterworks industry. We'll bring the water system 'above-ground' for you to have a look and better understand the work we do. We'll even serve a BBQ lunch! Come and test your knowledge of hydraulics by playing the game Aqualibrium. Take the tap water taste test. It’s a great way to meet and mingle with Trustees, admin staff and system operators in a casual setting to learn the value of our water system.
This year, we are also celebrating our 65th anniversary! Please come out and help us celebrate!
Please join us at our Lynden Well Field at 2450 Lynden Street on August 24, 2018. Festivities start at 10:30 am. We are really excited to see all of you there!
